On 17 November 2023, SUNTERRA officially launched the Galabovo Photovoltaic Power Plant. The installation is located in the energy heart of Bulgaria, the municipality of Galabovo. The opening ceremony, near the village of Mednikarovo, was attended by representatives of the company, the local authorities in the region, dozens of subcontractors, partners and employees.
His Eminence Metropolitan Kyprian of Stara Zagora, gave a water blessing and consecrated the new facility. The emblematic Rhodope bagpipes and the cosmic voice of Valya Balkanska, supported by the legendary bagpiper Petar Yanev, sounded the solar field and ignited the festive spirit.
This investment shows the way to a carbon-free future, in a region with a tradition of electricity generation. Therefore, the project is emblematic not only for Bulgaria, but also for Europe, said Nikola Anev the CEO of SUNTERRA, at the official ceremony. Next to him, to officially open the site and cut the ribbon, stood the Operations Director of SUNTERRA Miroslav Dinev, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Galabovo Eng. Plamen Barakov and the President of the Municipal Council Svetla Boyancheva.
Galabovo Photovoltaic Power Plant has a capacity of 201 MW and extends into the land of three settlements - Obruchishte, Mednikarovo and Musachevo. It provides green energy for the annual needs of nearly 82,300 households and prevents the release of 306,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
SUNTERRA is a national leader in the development of solar parks. Currently, the total capacity of the company's photovoltaic power plants is 410 MW.
